5 Times Boko Haram Rocked Nigeria

The religious extremist organisation known as Boko Haram was founded in northeastern Nigeria in 2002. Its current leader is Abubakar Shekau. In the early years of its destructive life, the sect was led by its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, a well-educated man who was totally convinced that western education is 'haram' (evil) although he had same to its fullest. If you find that to be absurd, that makes two of us.

Since the current insurgency started in 2009, Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands and displaced 2.3 million from their homes and was ranked as the world's deadliest terror group by the Global Terrorism Index in 2015.

According to Amnesty International, in 2017 alone, the group was responsible for the death of about 375 persons. This happens to be the reported ones, there, of course, could be more.

1. Suicide Attacks Of 15th August 2017

On the 15th of August 2017, three Explosions rocked the city of Maiduguri. After the explosions and following body counts, the number of the dead were put at least 83 persons.

The explosions were a coordinated suicide attack by the Boko Haram terrorist sect. A female suicide bomber detonated herself in a market while two others let off theirs at the gate of a refugee camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

2. 2015 Ramadan Attack

In 2015, members of Boko Haram sect raided Mosques in three villages in Maiduguri, Borno State during Ramadan. They proceeded to separate the captured according to gender, thereafter, opened fire on the hapless worshippers.

The body count after the massacre was between 118 and 147 ranking among the deadliest of such attacks.

3. Murder Of 10 Polio Immunization Workers

On 8 February 2013, Nigeria's war against poliomyelitis suffered a great blow after 10 workers engaged in the distribution of polio vaccines were killed by members of the deadly group.

4. Kidnap Of Chibok School Girls

On April 14, 2014, Nigeria wore a mourning visage as the airwaves were filled with the news of the kidnap of about 276 school girls of Government Girls Secondary School in the northeastern city of Chibok.

Fifty of the girls managed to escape and many have been returned in exchange for some arrested Boko Haram leaders. But a good number are still being held by the marauders.

5. 2015 Baga Massacre

According to Wikipedia "The 2015 Baga massacre was a series of mass killings carried out by the Boko Haram terrorist group in the north-eastern Nigerian town of Baga and its environs, in the state of Borno, between 3 January and 7 January 2015."

Between the 3rd and 7th of January 2015, the blood-thirsty sect sacked the JTF Headquarters and committed murders numbering between 150 to 2000 persons, according to estimates.
